I call these three the "grandcats" (as opposed to Grandchildren) as they don't live with me, but belong to my elder daughter and her fiance. Marmite and Twiglet were rescue cats, sister and brother. Marmite is black all over and Twiglet was a tabby.

There were quite a few trips to the rescue centre before these two came along as kittens a couple of years ago. They were loved as much as any cats could be, with toys galore.

Twiglet used to like riding on Brian's shoulder and even on occasions went into work with him.

However, one dark night, Twiglet was hit by a car and killed outright.
So, back to the rescue centre for a new friend for Marmite.
I went with them this time and as soon as we walked in, we saw Albert (they'd chosen the name before the cat!). He started talking to us and that was that...he was definitely the one. He was a young ginger cat, about six months old or so, picked up as a stray. Once he'd been neutered he went to live with them. After a few scraps with Marmite, they learnt to live happily with one another.

He was a prolific hunter and brought home all sorts of gifts for his new parents..voles, mice, lizards etc.

Then, about six months ago, Albert came home with his tail dragging lifelessly behind him and several claws missing. It would seem that he, too, had been hit by a car.

After a couple of weeks, when the vets hoped in vain that he would regain the use of his tail, he had to have it amputated. Now he doesn't even have a stump.....As we don't know how he became to be a stray in the first place, goodness knows how many of his nine lives he has used up!
