TABITHA, who was only with us for a week when she died unexpectedly one day before we could even call the vet.

TIKKI, one of three brothers and sisters called Rikki, Tikki and Tavi (after Rudyard Kipling's mongoose).

She had a penchant for sleeping in wastepaper baskets.

She was another who went out one day and was never seen again, at six months old.

TRAMPAS, a stray who arrived in a terrible state, who I fed, de-flea'd and wormed. Once he started to show an improvement, he moved on to pastures new (or old) with never a bye your leave.

None of these were with us for long, but they all left memories that will live on.

HE-MAN and SHE-RA, Bagpuss's kittens who are now under a rosebush in our garden.
